Voices with Dorothy

Posted by Jeff on September 21, 2011 at 11:45 PM Comments comments (1)

With some of the most memorable film songs of all time, The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic that introduced the world to 17-year old singer/actress Judy Garland. With large ‘Ruby Red Slippers’ to fill, a 17 year-old Nikki respectfully performed Dorothy's songs for a 2011 adaptation of the film – Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz. With marvelous renditions of classics like “Over the Rainbow,” “We’re Off To See The Wizard” and “If I Only Had a Brain” it is no wonder that Tony Bennett calls Nikki, “The most talented singer I’ve heard since Judy Garland.” The film is directed by Spike Brandt and released by Warner Bros. Animation. It is now available in stores and online. Click these links to purchase the movie!

Nikki Yanofsky has teamed up with the Family Channel for their eighth annual Stand UP! campaign, in conjunction with Bullying Awareness Week. Nikki has donated the use of her performance of the inspirational song "Ooh Child" (from her gold-selling "Live In Montreal" DVD), which stands alongside songs by fellow young Canadian artists Lindsay Hamilton and Saveria. "I'm proud to be part of an initiative that raises awareness of an issue that is sadly all too prominent with students.” Says Nikki about the Stand UP! campaign, “My hope is for those who listen to my song and the songs of the other artists, to be inspired to do what they can to take a stand against bullying." Nikki finished her worldwide summer tour on Saturday night with a free outdoor show during The National Arts Centre Orchestra's Concerts in the Park series. She and her band joined guest conductor Edwin Outwater and the orchestra to perform songs from both her acclaimed studio debut Nikki, as well as selections from her live tribute album to Ella Fitzgerald, Ella…Of Thee I Swing. The crowd of more than eight thousand was in awe of the young chanteuse and many fans have already posted videos they made at the concert to YouTube. Not only was the show a success with the fans, but the critics are also in love with Nikki's music. Tony Lofaro of The Ottawa Citizen wrote a glowing review of the concert! Nikki Wraps Up Canadian Tour

Posted by Jeff on September 21, 2011 at 11:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Nikki just completed a successful cross-Canada tour of major Canadian jazz festivals, which the Montreal Gazette is calling "another discernible step in her evolution." Beginning with a sold out concert at the stunning new venue Koerner Hall, to open the Toronto Jazz Festival, Nikki wowed the packed house encoring with a stunning rendition of her hit "I Believe" backed by the Regent Park School Of Music Choir. A particular highlight of the tour was when her twin-bill-mate, John Pizzarelli, joined Nikki on stage for a duet on the classic standard "Lullaby Of Birdland". Nikki's poise and delivery of classic material is becoming more mature with each passing day. Marke Andrews of the Vancouver Sun commented, "A highlight was her duet with pianist John Sadowy of 'Over The Rainbow', a benchmark song for any vocalist on which she hit all the tough notes and lived the lyrics in her delivery." With barely enough time to rest, Nikki and the team are off to Europe for Nikki's first tour of European jazz festivals. Following that there will be several concert appearances to close out the summer including a FREE appearance with The National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, and Nikki's first appearance in Israel, at the Red Sea Jazz Festival. This should prepare Nikki well for the big plans coming up for the fall; her first major tour of the United States and another trip to Japan, her fourth visit to the region in eighteen months!
